Yellowhead County is the only one in Alberta Division 14. It was established on January 1, 1994 as a Municipal District of Yellowhead No. 94 and it encompasses the towns of Edson and Hinton and a number of hamlets. The county is situated south of Woodlands County, north of Clearwater County, east of Willmore Wilderness Park and west of Parkland County.
Oil, natural gas, forestry and coal are the county's major economic drivers. It is served by CN Rail, Yellowhead Highway and Highway 47. Some of the recreational facilities in the county include Shiningbank Lake, Bear Lake, Long Lake and Nojack Park. It also has educational facilities such as Gerard Redmond Community Catholic School and Westhaven Elementary School as well as The Hinton Healthcare Centre is the county's main medical facility that deals with both minor and complicated medical treatments.
Yellowhead County is home to the Wild Mountain Music Festival which is an annual event hosted by the Entrance Ranch and runs for a weekend in Hinton town.
