Municipal District of Acadia No. 34 is located in southern eastern Alberta. It contains the hamlet of Acadia Valley and the localities of Acadia, Arneson and Haven. It is sandwiched by the rural municipalities of Milton, Chesterfield and Deer Forks and Special Areas No.2 and No.3. The district was established in 1913 but it was not until 1945 that it was incorporated into a municipality. As at 2011 census, the population of Acadia was 495. It occupies an area of 1,076.26 square kilometers hence its population density is 0.5 per square kilometers.
Acadia's economy is majorly based on agriculture. It is a dryland farming area boasting of 276,000 acres of arable land, 177,000 acres of which are under dryland cultivation and about 1200 under irrigation.
The Buffalo Trail, also known as Highway 41 runs across the area north to south. Acadia also has some 480 kilometers of improved roads, 60 kilometers of municipal highways, 220 kilometers of bladed trails, 48 kilometers of Paved secondary Highways and about 48 kilometers of Primary Highway.
Acadia is a partner in Canadian Badlands Tourism as well as in the ââ¬ÅTravel the Special Areaââ¬â¢sââ¬Â Program and it is home to the Prairie Elevator Museum and Tea House.
