Some things about the area

Situated on the southern part of Vancouver Island, the Cowichan Valley Regional District occupies 3,473.12 square kilometers. It is bordered by the Capital Regional District to the south and east, the Regional District of Nanaimo to the north and Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District to the north west. The region encompasses nine electoral areas and eighteen native reserves. School District 79 Cowichan Valley is the authority responsible for the only public school in the region, Cowichan Secondary School. Other schools are Queen Margaret's School which is a private school and Queen of Angels, a catholic school. It also has a campus of Vancouver Island University in Duncan.

The regional district is served by Trans-Canada Highway. Its major public transportation system is co-funded by the Cowichan Valley Regional Transit System and BC Transit. Some of its notable parks and recreational facilities include the Cobble Hill Regional Recreation Area, Historic Kinsol Trestle and the Cowichan Valley Trail.
