The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine is situated in the northwestern parts of British Columbia. Its southern section stretches along Canada's western continental coastline on the Pacific Ocean. It is bordered by Stikine Regional District to the north, the Bulkley Nechako Regional District to the west and the Central Coast Regional District to the south. It encompasses Terrace City, the District Municipalities of Kitimat, New Hazelton and Stewart and the Village of Hazelton.
All the public schools in the four municipalities are under the authority of School District 82 Coast Mountains which administers schools such as Caledonia Senior Secondary School, North Coast Distance Education School and Skeena Middle School. The only institutions of higher learning in the largely rural region are the campuses of Northwest Community College and the University of Northern British Columbia all of which are situated in Terrace City.
