Some things about the area

Westville is a small town of 14.39 square kilometers lying approximately four kilometres southwest of New Glasgow and west of Stellarton. The town which rises 70.1 meters above the sea level was incorporated on August 20, 1894 and is home to about 3,800 people.

Westville had a booming coal mining industry from 1866 until the closure of its last mine in the 1990s. Like many coal mining towns, it had an active sports community and was popular for baseball. Today, it is mainly a bedroom community featuring banks, restaurants, gift shops and other amenities. The town marked its centenary celebrations in 2007 during the Canada Day celebrations.

It is home to notable figures such as Nova Scotia's two time chess champion, Alvah Mayo and George Canyon, a country singer.
