Some things about the area

The community of Glace Bay is situated in the County of Cape Brenton. The former town was dissolved to form part of Cape Breton Regional Municipality in August 1, 1995. Glace Bay was a coal mining town from the 1860's till 2001 when the last of its coal mines, Prince Colliery in Point Aconi was closed due to depleted coal deposits.

The town has an estimated population of 20,000 residents. There are small fishing activities accompanied by fish processing, though not as in the 20th century when the fish industry was a major economic activity in the town. Today, there are attempts to reclaim abandoned coal mines in the community. This endeavor is being undertaken by Xstrata, a Swiss mining consortium

The heavily forested town features places such as the Marconi National Historic Site of Canada and Parks Canada, the latter being a government agency managing 44 National Parks in Canada.
