Truro is the shire town of the County of Colchester. It lies at an altitude of 19 meters above the sea level along the Salmon River where it spans 37.63 square kilometers. Founded in 1759, the town is home to about 12,000 people with a median household income of $37,056.

Truro experienced rapid economic growth from 1858 whith the construction of the Nova Scotia Railway between Pictou and Halifax.
